I was invited to join Za Za by Robert Greenberg. Robert and I had worked
creatively together in video and television production in the Medical training and education area for some time during the 1980’s.
After Urban Principle I needed time out playing live as a bassist and vocalist in this stylised, comical six piece combo playing warped covers of classic standards. The humour and approach was a welcome relief and breath of fresh air. The band drew upon Retro 40’s and 50’s style, film and TV, Soul, Funk, Country and R&B. Za Za had strange afflictions with hair design: no doubt due to Peter Moore’s Hair Salon in Clarendon Street South Melbourne where we rehearsed, hung out and developed our sense of theatrics, fashion and style.
Maybe our Friday night sessions nearby at Redheads Night Club had something to do with it as well.
